Many travellers arriving on the island touch down at Penang International Airport, either direct from international connections or via KL. Penang International Airport (PEN) is situated in Bayan Lepas towards the island’s southeastern coast and serves as the gateway to northern Malaysia. The airport features the usual array of ATM machines, money changers, fast food joints and duty free shopping.
International flights land here from Hong Kong, Medan, Singapore, Banda Aceh, Bangkok, Taipei, Perth, Phuket, Jakarta, Macau, Koh Samui and Guangzhou. Domestic flights connect with Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Johor Bahru and Langkawi.
More than three million passengers and 20 million tonnes of cargo pass through the airport every year. Low-cost carrier Firefly, part of Malaysia Airlines, has Penang International Airport as its hub. The airport is also used by Air Asia, Cathay Pacific Airways, Singapore Airlines, Jetstar, Tiger Airways, Thai Airways and Malaysia Airlines.

Getting from the airport to Georgetown takes around 20 minutes and should cost RM20 in a taxi. Alternatively, visitors can take Rapid Penang bus 401A every 30 minutes from the terminal building to the KOMTAR building in downtown for RM2.70. The first bus departs 0530 and the last bus leaves at 2335.
Alternatively yellow bus 83 leaves from KOMTAR or Pengkalan Weld on the hour between 06:00 and 22:00 and takes 45 minutes to reach the airport.
